Find Your TRIGGER to be Your BEST!

Find Your TRIGGER to be Your BEST!

As I sat down to write this morning, I went through my typical routine. The daily quote sent out to my loved ones, brain games done, meditation, workout and Bulletproof coffee all checked off. Yet I sat staring at my screen blankly, trying to figure out what was missing. Ironic that the missing ingredient is the very subject I’m about to dive into. I had failed to use my trigger to be at my very best, to find that state of flow and just let go. Find your trigger to be your best!

I have coached on this subject for years as I believe it’s one of the most important elements to being our very best when we want/need to be. The most apt definition for trigger that I could find is “cause (an event or situation) to happen or exist”. If you choose to research it more, the word trigger is almost always associated with negativity. While negative triggers certainly exist, let’s focus on the positives of a trigger and how to combat the negative.

A trigger can be different for every single person and there is certainly no right or wrong type. For some it’s reading a quote, meditating or clapping their hands. It has always been music for me. When I was doing a lot of sales calls, it was a specific Eminem song that just made me want to run through a brick wall. I can’t explain why that particular song spoke to me and infused a fire inside but it does every time. The song puts me in the proper mindset and like a light switch being turned on, instantly I am the best version of myself.

So how do you find your trigger to be your best? Self-Reflection and paying attention to what “revs your engine” and when you discover it, write it down. Just like I momentarily forgot this morning, it’s amazing how quickly we will forget what the magic button was. It will certainly become a habit once you use the trigger several hundred times but it’s always nice to have a reference point in case temporary amnesia sets in.

Now that you have your trigger at your disposal, use it to your advantage. Life happens and that means inevitably some form of adversity or challenge is around the corner. As I stated earlier, we also have negative triggers that don’t allow us to be our very best. When these negative triggers pop up, hit back with your positive trigger and see which one prevails. It may not always work but is one more tool you can use to show up as your best version. You and the world deserve your very best, your trigger can help unlock that version more often!
