3 Must Do’s Daily to Live Your Best Life

We live in an extremely busy world and have many responsibilities daily. I watch most people take care of everyone and everything around them, way before they consider taking care of themselves. The problem is there is a shelf life and not a long one if this pattern continues. What I am about to tell you will sound selfish at the outset but is the polar opposite of that. To take care of everyone else, you need to take care of yourself first. When people neglect themselves, they are unable physically or mentally to help others long term. The great news is there are only 3 areas that need to be addressed daily for you to be your best.

Mind

So much research has been done recently on the fact that our brains continue to develop as we age, also known as neuroplasticity. Without “getting into the weeds” scientifically speaking, exercising your mind is essential. Some suggestions are play brain games (my favorite is Lumosity), learn something new or read 10 pages from a book a day. Our brains are meant to be exercised regularly and like any muscle will atrophy if not challenged daily. Learning does not stop once school is out, so challenge your mind daily.

Body

“The greatest wealth is health” -Virgil That simple quote has profound meaning and something that we should all keep as perspective. We only have this one body, and it is meant to move and be well nourished. There are so many different forms of exercise such as taking a walk, lifting weights or practicing yoga. I have coached many of my clients to “sweat at least once daily” as their mantra for taking care of their body. Our health is precious so checking off that box daily helps to ensure our bodies stay strong for as long as possible.

Soul

The definition of soul according to Merriam-Webster is “the spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe”. The soul is that part of you that is hard to define but you know it is there. One could argue that the soul is our entire being. Feeding your soul can be accomplished many ways such as meditating (my personal favorite), reading the bible or walking in silence along the beach. Whatever you choose, take time for yourself to be grounded and “one with the universe”, feeding off its energy.

Three areas for you to be intentional about daily. This is the best way for you to be your most unselfish version of you. For those depending on you, they need you to show up as the best version of yourself. I will leave you with this quote by Kakul Sinha. “Self-care is a breath for the soul. Without taking care of yourself, your mind, body & soul deplete. How can you love another when you are last on your list”?
